Medium International Tax Withholding of 30%

Hello everyone, this article today is a little out of scope for my posts, usually extremely technical.

We are going to talk about the tax that Medium charges from Non-US residents, like me… I live in Portugal and never paid close attention for the tax applied, which is 30% and could be reduced in some cases.

So, I went to the Medium Tax FAQ to see if there was anything that could lower this rate, which in my view is too high.

I found this question: Filling out the W-8BEN and W-8BEN-E tax form (for nonresident aliens) — The form that we Individuals has to fill is the W-8BEN (The W-8BEN-E is for Entities or Partnerships). I already have filled this form correctly, the only point that I missed was the Claim of Treaty Benefits (Part II) and this is a very important one!!

Basically, if you are a resident of one of this countries, you could benefit from this treaty and reduce the tax you have to pay.
